Short Bio

Currently, I am a tenured assistant professor at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (the Netherlands). Prior to this, I was engaged as a senior research associate at the University of Oxford (UK). My professional journey also includes industrial experience as a full-time IT (management) consultant at Boston Consulting Group Nordics, from September 2022 to June 2023. From September 2019 to August 2022, I held the position of senior lecturer/Postdoctoral researcher at the University of Oslo (Norway). From March 2019 to August 2019, I was a research associate at the University of Manchester (UK), working on the EPSRC IAA Project “Comparison and Abstraction of SNOMED CT Ontologies” together in collaboration with Snomed International.

I earned my PhD degree from Université Paris-Saclay (France). In June 2018, I was selected as one of the ten representative PhD students in Artificial Intelligence to attend French American Doctoral Exchange Seminar (FADEx) 2018 organised by Mission pour la Science et la Technologie aux États-Unis (Office for Science and Technology at the Embassy of France in the United States). From October 2013 to March 2014, I was an exchange student in the master’s program of computational logic at TU Dresden (Germany) funded by the EU programme Erasmus Mundus scholarship.

Projects

  1. Zorro
    Role: WP2 leader.
ZORRO is a research project funded by NWO and carried out by a multidisciplinary consortium consisting of University of Twente, Vrije Universiteit, Saxion, TNO-ESI and industrial partners ASML, Canon Production Printers, ITEC, Philips, and ThermoFisher Scientific.

  2. PoliBias
Role: Principal Investigator (with Dr. Chendi Wang).
A research project funded by the Network Institute Academy Assistant Programme 2025–26, investigating ideological and entity-level political biases in large language models across multiple countries.

  3. FairHR-LLM
Role: Principal Investigator (with Dr. Maarten Renkema).
A collaborative research project funded by the VU–UT collaboration programme, focusing on detecting and mitigating bias in LLM-driven HR processes through the integration of structured knowledge bases.

  4. ConCur
    Partners: University of Oxford, Samsung.
Concur is mainly funded by UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). We study a range of semantic and machine learning techniques, and how to combine them to support knowledge graph construction and curation. As well as its application to knowledge graph construction and curation, the research will also contribute to the development of new neural-symbolic theories, paradigms and methods, such as deep semantic embedding for learning representations for expressive knowledge, and knowledge-guided learning for addressing sample shortage problems.

  5. SIRIUS
Partners: University of Oxford, SINTEF, Aibel, Bosch, Equinor, etc.
SIRIUS is a Norwegian Centre for Research-driven Innovation that addresses the problems of scalable data access in and beyond the oil & gas industry. The centre combines public funding for basic research with funding from its industry partners into an 8 year programme for industrial innovation.

  6. SNOMED
Partners: University of Manchester, Snomed International.
The project aims to apply knowledge and tools developed from previous research for tracking the changes between different versions of an ontology and forgetting some terms from an ontology thereby computing an abstraction of it. The focus of the project was a trial on a core subset of the SNOMED CT medical ontology in order to address content-related quality issues. The key deliverables are insight and automated support for tracking the different country versions of the sub-ontologies and bespoke abstractions of SNOMED CT (sub-)ontologies.
